United Nude

A few weeks ago, I was walking down the streets in Amsterdam in the “9 straatjes” (the nine streets). These streets are very popular shopping streets, with vintage stores, designer boutiques, art galleries, jewellers, gift shops, fashion shops and specialist businesses.
I passed the store United Nude (UN) where my eye caught the attention of heels with the bottom of a chair.

Eamz: The United Nude Eamz is conceptually inspired by a furniture design classic; the Charles and Ray Eames chair. The United Nude Eamz shoe is an ode to their vision.

United Nude products are about clear concepts, elegance and innovation.
The first time I heard about United Nude was in the Dutch Elle-magazine. In this magazine I read an article about a new store that was going to be opened in Amsterdam with amazing shoes: United Nude. The opening of this store in Amsterdam was by the way 22 October 2009.

Because of the intriguing shoes in the window, I entered the store to have a look. I bumped into the amazing €995,- plateau high heels, with black and gold leather.

I immediately called this pair of really "killer" heels my favourite. Although these are too expensive, not really wearable, and too extrovert for me, I definitely liked the design and the way the leather is workin out on the heels. This would really be a good match for Lady Gaga.

OH MY GAWD, just as I’m typing, right now, I am googling United Nude and found a news-article about Lady Gaga wearing a dress from the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen and, yes it’s true: shoes from United Nude, and not just random shoes, NOPE, the shoes I’m just telling you about. I honestly just found out! How bizarre this prediction!
I like how this blog turned out in a lovely surprise.

I found out that the shoe I’m telling you about is co-designed by Iris van Herpen:

Iris van Herpen X United Nude Synesthesia: see the link: http://www.unitednude.com/products/limited-edition/iris-van-herpen-x-united-nude
The Iris van Herpen X United Nude product is a glamorous ankle bootie with smooth round lines and golden leather detailing on the front and back of the shoe, with three-dimensional characteristics. Transparency, reflections and movements create the effect of visual estrangement. The construction of the shoe is so complicated and precise that each pair is 100% hand-made with the highest grade Italian kid leather available.”

The Iris Heel is a collaboration between United Nude and Iris van Herpen. The heel made its debut during Ms. van Herpen’s A/W 2010 catwalk show during London Fashion Week. The collaboration came about when United Nude’s Creative Director Rem D. Koolhaus met Iris and offered to make heels for her. Iris is made out of Italian Kidskin Leather and is completely handmade with gold detailing in the front and back of the heel. Only 168 pairs in black and 72 pairs in ivory will be available at select retailers and United Nude stores in Amsterdam, New York, Shanghai and Vienna for $1,295 USD(1,000 Euro).

Iris van Herpen also designed another shoe: The Iris van Herpen X United Nude product is a glamorous ankle bootie with smooth round lines and golden leather detailing on the front and back of the shoe, with three-dimensional characteristics. Transparency, reflections and movements create the effect of visual estrangement. The construction of the shoe is so complicated and precise that each pair is 100% hand-made with the highest grade Italian kid leather available. WOW

This one is available in black, tan (light brown), off white and black with a metal chain.

Amsterdam International Fashion Week: day 1

Livestream Amsterdam International Fashion Week
First: SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers around 6.30 PM

Around 8.47PM. The website refreshes again, and finally the live stream video pops up. For a few seconds I could see a girl shouting through the microphone: “Do I have to speak louder?” After this I can only see a shot of the catwalk and the projection of a beamer with: Spijkers en Spijkers. This is the only thing I can see for a while, with sometimes people walking by.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the website, there is an area wit hall the tweets of people who tweet with #AIFW. This makes the waiting much more fun. Even some pictures from people who are backstage appear on Twitter.

In between the waiting and the people coming into the room, there is a girl interviewing a few people. She laughs a little insecure and asks sometime a little weird questions, but I’m very glad to hear people’s opinions and to have a look backstage.

When the show was about to start I had to have dinner with my family, but luckily I put my laptop on another table in the corner that I still could see the show a little.

According to SIS by Spijkers en Spijkers the trends for the upcoming season are: colour blocking, graphical prints, big straw hats and especially booming colours on a quiet fabric.
SIS by Spijkers and Spijkers is aimed to fulfil the vision of the two sisters Spijkers for a wide range of people. This clothing line is based on their original label: a lot of graphical details, colour blocking and Art-Deco-influences from the twenties.

The second show is from Tony Cohen. Tony’s vibes and inspirations are: flower arrangements, curtain draping, incense, flower smells, music, art, fabrics, travelling all over the world. I’m curious what his inspiration source was for his upcoming collection.

“The cloths of Tony Cohen don’t where me, but I wear them.” This is a quote of one of the visitors who was wearing a dress of Tony Cohen, before the show.

Tony Cohen is using see-through fabrics with white/pastel/earth/flower colours combined with petrol blue. Some dresses are longer in the back and very floaty, also dresses till the ground are passing by. The style is very romantic with asymmetrical layered with ruffles and sometimes a sparkling touch because of the sequins. He also combined a lot of draping in his dresses, what he did before. The Dutch model Kim Feenstra wears 2 outfits. Because of the straight hair and the wedges, the collection is a little 70’s.

Tony Cohen himself told the interview-girl that his inspiration was the free-feeling of the seventies with a lot of other different inspirations.

What do you think of the two shows? Which one do you prefer?

In prefer the collection of Tony Cohen, he passed the colour blocking and went to the romantic and soft side.
